Questions

Things people ask us before they book

Collected from actual phone calls and emails about moves in SW6. If something here is not covered, ask — we would rather answer it than have you guess.

Removals in Fulham, answered

Do you cover all of Fulham, or just the SW6 core?

All of SW6 — Parsons Green, Fulham Broadway, Sands End, Hurlingham, Walham Green and the streets between them — plus the Fulham Palace Road edge where SW6 meets W6. We cross into Chelsea, Hammersmith, Putney and Battersea for the other end of a move without treating it as a special request.

How do you work out what a Fulham move costs?

Volume, distance, access and how much packing you want us to do. Access is the one that moves the figure most in SW6: a ground-floor flat with a loading bay outside is a different job from a third-floor mansion flat with no lift and a permit to arrange. That is why we survey before we quote rather than guessing off a room count.

Can you handle a mansion block where the managing agent has rules?

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do here. Most Fulham blocks want a copy of our goods-in-transit and public liability cover, sometimes a method statement, and a lift booked into a slot. We deal with the agent and the porter directly so you are not the one relaying messages on moving morning.

Will you sort out the parking?

Where the street needs it, we apply to Hammersmith & Fulham for a bay suspension and put the cones out ahead of the move. Some streets do not need one and a well-chosen loading point does the job. We decide which on the survey — it is one of the things we are looking at while we walk round.

Do you do packing, or is that on us?

Either. Full packing where we bring the materials and do the lot, part-packing where we take the kitchen, the china and the artwork and you handle the wardrobes, or materials only if you would rather do it yourself. Fragile and high-value pieces we would always rather pack ourselves.

Can you store things if the new place is not ready?

Yes. Goods go into sealed containers, inventoried at your address, and stay that way until you ask for them back. It is the usual answer when a chain slips or a renovation overruns — see the storage page for how it works.

How far ahead should we book a Fulham removal?

As far ahead as you reasonably can, and especially if you are moving at the end of a month or on a Friday — those are the slots that go first. That said, ring us anyway if your date has just landed on you. Late bookings work more often than people expect.

What if our completion date moves?

Tell us the moment you know. Dates slipping is normal in a chain and we would far rather re-plan early than find out on the morning. Where a change means a genuinely different job we will re-quote and explain what changed; where it does not, it is just a diary move.

Are you insured?

Goods-in-transit and public liability cover are both in place, and the limits are stated on your quote rather than buried. If you have a single item worth more than the standard per-item limit, tell us at survey and we will arrange the cover it needs before the day.

What happens if something gets damaged?

Note it at delivery while the crew is still there, and tell us in writing. The claims process and the window for reporting are set out in the booking terms. We would rather hear about it immediately than find out weeks later when nobody can say what happened.

Do you take the packing materials away afterwards?

Yes, where we did the packing. We collect the empty boxes and crates once you have unpacked — just tell us when you are ready. It saves you a run to the recycling centre with a car full of cardboard.

Can you move a piano?

Uprights, generally yes with the right crew and equipment. Grands are a specialist job and we would bring in someone who does only that. Either way it needs flagging at survey, because a piano changes the crew size, the equipment and the access plan.

Do you clear rubbish or take away unwanted furniture?

No — that is waste clearance and it needs a waste carrier licence, which is a different business from removals. We can point you at the council collection service or a licensed clearance firm, but we will not quietly take it away on the van.

Can you move on a Saturday or a Sunday?

Saturdays regularly. Sundays and bank holidays are possible but harder, partly because some Fulham buildings restrict weekend moves in the lease. Worth checking your block's rules before you set your heart on a Sunday.

Our new place is a rental with an inventory clerk booked. Does that matter?

Only for timing. The clerk usually wants the property empty or the goods in, depending on which end they are doing. Tell us the slot and we will work to it rather than turning up in the middle of a check-in.

Do you offer a video survey instead of a visit?

Yes, and for a flat or a smaller house it works perfectly well. You walk us round on your phone, open the cupboards, show us the stairs and the street. For a larger house, or anywhere with genuinely awkward access, we would still rather come and stand in it.

Who actually turns up on the day?

Our own crew, in our own vehicles. We do not sell your job on to whoever is free. If a move is large enough to need extra hands we will tell you at quote stage that we are bringing additional crew, and who they are.

Can we leave clothes in the drawers?

In a chest of drawers, usually yes if the unit is sound — it saves a lot of boxing. In a wardrobe, no: we will bring wardrobe cartons so things travel hanging and arrive without a crease. Bedside drawers full of books are a no, for the sake of the drawer runners and the person carrying it.

Do you need someone there for the whole move?

Someone who can make decisions, yes — at least at the start to walk the crew round and at the end to say where things go. You do not need to stand and watch, and most people use the middle of the day to deal with keys, meters and the estate agent.

What do we need to do about the utilities and the post?

Meter readings at both ends on the day, and a redirect set up with Royal Mail well ahead of the move. Not our job, but it is the thing people most often leave until the evening before, so we mention it.

Can you deliver boxes before the move?

Yes. If you are packing yourself we will drop the materials off ahead of time so you are not doing it all the night before. Order more than you think you need — everyone underestimates books and kitchens.

Still not answered?

The service pages go into more detail than this list does. House removals covers terraces and staircases, flat removals deals with mansion blocks and managing agents, storage explains how containerised storage differs from a self-storage unit, and the European moves page handles customs and the transfer-of-residence process.

Anything else, get in touch. There is no charge for a question and we do not mind answering one that does not turn into a booking.

Question answered? Then tell us about the move.

Addresses, rough size, floor, and anything you already know is going to be difficult.
